 Topics

Each term, each age group begins to explore a new topic - this is what is coming up next term:

  • Musicaliti Babies
    So Shiny
Babies use their senses to explore different ways of being sparkly and shiny.  This term we take full advantage of the 'magical' properties of music, to stir the heart and soul, to inspire and to bond. Alternating between baby/carer bonding to group dances, quiet rocking to bounces and instrument play, you will get to know your little one even more and learn about how they learn, what they respond to and how you can best support them for life.  The optional music pack includes a baby book full of songs encouraging that special relationship, along with a cd and a musical instrument to keep.
  • Musicaliti Nursery
    Little Princess, Little Prince
Toddlers and Preschoolers turn into royalty this term based on songs from our rich and vast history.  Developing fine and gross motor co-ordination, movement is strongly encouraged, introducing children to musical concepts through physical experience.  Our focus is on maintaining a steady beat towards creating a sense of 'inner hearing' the ability to continue a song in your head.  The usual variety of instruments will be available along with assorted props, and gradual introduction to tuned percussion like ukuleles and glockenspiels. The optional music pack includes an A4 book of royal songs, a cd, and a musical instrument to keep.
  • Musicaliti Primary
    Musical Food
Sing a song of six pence, oranges and lemons, peas pudding hot ... songs through the ages have used food, but what was peas pudding?  And blackbird pie?  Let's have a try!  Sometimes literally, sometimes, imaginatively, each week will introduce a different song, with a different 'dish' - with a dance and a shaking-tappity-clang or two!  This term will focus on the development of regular beat into glockenspiel play using basic notation.  The accompanying music pack includes the Fantastic Food Folder for songs - and recipes - with a cd, and surprise take home instrument.  (Glockenspiels available for optional discounted purchase, but one will be provided for each child each week.)

Upcoming Events

Looking ahead to Spring 2011:

  • Yum, yum in my Tum
For now it's milky and mushy, but not for long ...
  • Ready, Steady, Eat
Singing about food is almost as good as eating it!
  • Under the Sea
Our musical underwater adventure begins ...

This term:

  • Babies discovered different ways to move with carers, singing songs about different vehicles and loving the suspense created as they stop and go with scarves, movement and music.
  • Toddlers and Preschoolers explored different musical meters through modes of transport, from cars and bicycles to boats and planes.  (Optional music pack included a cd, A4 book of transport songs and rhythm sticks.)
  • Primary Infants brought their Magical Musical folder each week, adding new characters each week to the Magical Musical Kingdom, exploring different notation values each week and consolidating on glockenspiels. (Music pack included a cd, folder with sheets and stickers and rhythm sticks.)

I’ve come up with the theory that the music is within.  We don’t bring it in; it’s already there.  We have to figure out how to get it out.”  ~Howard Roberts, guitarist
